Government Update

This Week in Review....                                                        May 4, 2012

Minimum Wage Increase – SB1565:
Senator Kimberly Lightford (D) is sponsoring a bill that would increase the state’s minimum wage to $10 an hour.  In addition, the legislation would index minimum wage to inflation annually.  This legislation is harmful to the success of businesses in Illinois.

VOTE NO on SB1565.

 Public Pension Reforms:
The Illinois Senate followed the House this week in passing HJRCA49, which requires a three-fifths majority vote for pension increases.  This language will now be placed on the ballot this November for the electorate to approve.

When you vote this November, please support the Public Pension Reform that will be on the ballot.

Tenaska Energy:
The Tenaska Energy legislation is not dead yet.  We need your help to stop this harmful legislation. Here’s how this legislation will impact Illinois residents and businesses:

  • $110 million a year in direct cost increases on their electricity bills;
  • A ripple effect from $290 million a year in new costs for Illinois business and industry, and;
  • Environmental costs for this and future generations.
